CITY OF PRAGUE -  Press release

PRAGUE CITY HALL - Public Relations Department

Notices of parking prohibition in the areas affected by the “WATER 2005” drill have been posted

In connection with the “WATER 2005“ drill exercise it will be necessary, in some areas of the capital, especially in the central district around the Vltava, to restrict individual motor car traffic. Appropriate traffic signs have already been installed in the streets  concerned, indicating  a prohibition on stopping during the period of the exercise.  The Prague City Hall  kindly requests its citizens remove their vehicles from the affected streets.  Vehicles remaining on these streets will be towed away.

“The flood protection exercise is a matter of public concern and we would therefore like to ask our citizens to cooperate as much as possible and to excuse us for any inconvenience. An operational flood protection system is here above all for the benefit of all citizens. We have no desire to aggravate any inconveniences caused and thus we shall endeavour to be accommodating whenever it is necessary to tow vehicles away. Should someone be on vacation, for example, we shall not charge for towing away their car. On the other hand, towing vehicles away in itself is unpleasant enough and certain rules must be obeyed and it is in the interest of all concerned that they do not try to take undue advantage of the city’s accommodating attitude. I should like to thank people for their cooperation”, said the city press officer, Jiří Wolf.

All towing is to be taken care of by the Technical Administration for Transport of the City of Prague in cooperation with the municipal police of the City of Prague. “In accordance with the law, traffic warning signs have to be installed seven days in advance, that’s the minimum limit for when the signs will have to be put up“, says Vladimír Kotrouš, head of municipal police of the City of Prague. At the same time, he   would like to assure everyone that if someone, for a valid reason, cannot remove their vehicle and it is towed away, then sanctions will not be applied: “If the affected citizen proves that within the prescribed period of seven days he was not in town or in the country, and had not thus received the information concerning the necessity of removing his vehicle then, of course, after having proved this fact, his vehicle will be released to him without charge”.

The stopping and parking prohibitions will be in force as of 7.30 pm Friday, 22 July to noon on Sunday, 24 July, within the following street areas:

ŠEŘÍKOVÁ, ŘÍČNÍ, MALOSTRANSKÉ NÁBŘEŽÍ, U SOVOVÝCH MLÝNŮ, U LUŽICKÉHO SEMINÁŘE, NA KAMPĚ, CIHELNÁ, on the SMETANOVO NÁBŘEŽÍ between KAROLINY SVĚTLÉ street and DIVADELNÍ street, BEZOVÁ street, VLTAVANŮ, U KEMPINKU, V NÁKLÍCH, and then the streets of MEZI VODAMI, K JEZU,  U KINA, HOŘEJŠÍ NÁBŘEŽÍ up to the ADMIRÁL BOTEL, NÁBŘEŽNÍ street and on the JANÁČKOVO NÁBŘEŽÍ embankment.
